Coca-Cola has more fans on Facebook than the White House and everyone from the neighbourhood cupcake shop to the Dalai Lama is on Twitter, but do employers really “like” social media?

With more than 901 million people on Facebook alone, it seems like almost everyone is connected through social media through one form or another. Our addiction to liking, tweeting and instagramming our lives has has made its way into the workplace, forcing employers to make a decision: do they love it or should employees leave it at home?

A recent infographic from PayScale found that although though companies “like” social media for brand promotion, they are much less enthusiastic when it comes to employee use. In fact, 42% of companies surveyed said they didn’t allow any use of social media in the office. However, two out of five Gen Y workers rate social media access above receiving a higher paycheck.
